Kim's Story

"I had my eye on various Keepsake rings and I wanted to do something special with my Breastmilk I had saved for the past 3 years.  When I saw that Sara was making Keepsakes, I knew right away I wanted her to make mine.

The care, thoughtfulness and attention to detail made it even more special. This ring will remind me of such a very special time between my daughter and I.

Thank you Sara for helping me remember these moments that I can wear so proudly, every day."

Michelle's Story

"You absolutely blew me away with this beautiful and meaningful necklace. Working with you was joyful and empowering, and I will cherish this necklace for the rest of my days. It also gives me peace to know that if something were to happen to it, that you have reserved some extra tissue in case the worst case scenario happens and I lose it or damage it and need to have it re-created.

Every step of the way you treated me and the project with such grace and compassion.

When I learned I would need to part with a significant part of my body, this beautiful little breast that filled out my wedding dress and fed my babies, I was sad.  I thought of times when this very part of me fed my babies on the beach, on the trail, and snuggling in the rocker.

I have come to terms with my mastectomy and I know that it was necessary. I was watching the work of my friend, Sara. She was also a VIP during Apple’s pregnancy, birth story, and her wee days as she was our doula.

Sara is a jeweler who works with resin. She is able to incorporate significant items into her jewelry. She has worked with drying breast milk, drying placenta tissue, and cremains and incorporating those items into heirloom jewelry pieces.

Having followed her work, I reached out to her when I learned I would need a mastectomy. Sara said she would work with my tissue, and she helped me figure out a way to ask my surgeon and her nurse if I could have just a wee bit of the tissue following pathology after surgery.

I was able to get my small tissue sample to Sara, and she was able to dry it and she mixed it with a bit of sand I had brought home from Park Point, a special place for me and for me as a mom. I thought about all times I’ve spent building castles, wiping sand from curious mouths, walking with our dogs and friends, and times when I have breastfed on the beach. She had me think about what type of pendant I might like, what type of chain, she asked me for imagery, and for songs that she might listen to while prepping and making this project.

The result? It is STUNNING. I am so moved by the care, compassion, and artistic skill that Sara put into this project. I trusted her to preserve this small part of myself, but she made it into a masterpiece!

What a comfort to wear this necklace to my daily trips to the hospital for radiation. What a story this necklace tells. How amazing that Sara found a way to share a piece of this journey with my daughters, too.

So here’s to being patient with small details, and here’s to New Moons and new paths, and to healing, and to artists, and to telling stories."
